ECSTASYDocumentary series, 6 X 24 minutesCommissioned by the National Geographic Channel.Ecstasy tells the story of 6 unique religious ceremonies, taking place among various religious groups in Israel and the Palestinian territories. Each 24 minutes episode follows one ceremony: after a brief introduction of the religion or cult, we follow the preparations that often commence weeks in advance, the gathering of the believers, the actual ceremony until its climax - expressed by the ecstasy of the participants. Ecstasy follows several beliefs and religions: Christians, Muslims, Jews and Samaritans. Our crew gained access to practices and events that are rarely accessible to outsiders, and some of the material, such as the Jewish feast of Purim in Me'a She'arim (Jerusalem) is filmed for the first time ever. Do the believers behave the way they do because they are taught to do so, or is their ecstasy genuine and spontaneous? What is the source of power that drives reasonable people to act the way they do - is it the strength of tradition, simple religious conviction, or something deeper?
