A veteran wildlife-photographer goes on a soul-searching journey for the ultimate picture
For the past three decades, marine and wildlife photographer Amos Nachoum, has been leading explorations featured by National Geographic, the BBC, and Discovery Channel. His photo essays have been published in National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer, Sport Diver, BBC Wildlife, Time, Life etc. He received, among other awards, the BBC Wildlife photographer of the year award, and was given the title "The Ambassador of the big animals" for his extraordinary life's work.
But who is the person behind some of the most striking nature images ever been taken by man, and what drove him to live life of solitude, adventure and danger?
2 weeks after his 60th birthday, Amos will set out to the Canadian arctic for a soul searching journey, with the intention to take the one photo he has pursuing for 30 years: a photo of a polar bear diving underwater. What makes this task so complicated is the fact that Amos has a unique approach to the photography of wild animals. He refuses to use special protective equipment or remote controls, opting to put himself face to face with the wildest creatures on earth, armed with nothing but his camera. He believes that this is the only way in which he can bring to the public the grace and beauty of those venerable species and dispel the myth of dangerous marine animals. Throughout his career he has used this approach with great white sharks, crocodiles, walruses, anacondas and orcas, but with the polar bear, the risk is greater than ever before.
