BORDERLINEThe story of the Israeli-Egyptian border Filmmaker Yoram Porath explores the desperate situation at the border between Egypt and Israel. There, hundreds of African refugees attempt to cross into Israel lured by rumors of easy employment and potential to build a life. During the day it is a virgin land, untouched by man except for isolated villages amid vast, biblical-looking landscape; but at night the border is the crossing point for refugees and employment seeking Africans, drugs, weapon and women smuggling into Israel. Both the Egyptian guards and the Israeli patrols are often caught in the middle having to expel refugees which sometimes leads to refugess dying in their urge to save their own already worn-torn lives. Israel does absorb some African refugees, but is faced with a growing immigration problem in which the country is unable to absorb most. With unprecedented access to the people who live and work in this stunning area - Yoram Porath will take the viewers on a fascinating journey to a place where desperate and often horrific events are revealed, where TV cameras and journalists don't go, where the problems only intensify and solutions are nowhere to be found.
